Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.
I would like to share my husband’s experience. It began in January 2009. We were in Clearwater Beach Florida to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. Unfortunately, my husband was ill with bronchitis and was unable to attend the game. That evening he had severe chest pains and was rushed to the emergency room. He spent 3 days in the hospital there, and numerous tests were performed on my husband’s heart. Fortunately no damage had been done. However, the cardiologist there strongly advised my husband to lose 100 pounds to be at his ideal weight. My husband is 52 years old, 6 ft. tall and weighed 272 pounds. He had not “worked out” since he played football in high school. He began working out at our local fitness center, and is up to 3 ½ miles per day on the elliptical and also lifts weights and does sit-ups. He has changed his lifestyle regarding eating habits as well. He drives a truck for a living, and for years survived on Mountain Dew and chips and would eat 1 to 2 huge meals each day. He gave up pop right there in that Florida hospital, and now has 3 to 4 much smaller healthier meals each day. He has lost 36 pounds so far and is still going strong!! He feels so much better! He has reduced his bad cholesterol, increased his good cholesterol, snores less and sleeps better. In addition, he advised his mother and sister to join in, and they too joined a fitness center and work out daily and are enjoying a much healthier lifestyle as well. His name is Russ Murphy, and I am so proud of him!
